The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award is given to a credit union or chapter/multiple credit union group for its social responsibility projects within the community. The award is given for external activities.
Colorado Credit Union (CO)
Commitment to Conquering Hunger in our Community
1st Place – $50 – $250 million in assets category
Colorado Credit Union’s program, “Commitment to Conquering Hunger in our Community,” is helping to solve the hunger problem in Colorado. The credit union helped found the Food for Thought Bak Pak program that serves homeless children and children experiencing hunger. In addition, for their all-staff community service day, they volunteer time at the Food Bank of the Rockies one day each year, and six of their staff volunteer at Community Food Share, a local food pantry, as part of a Young Professionals group. The credit union also hosts a community food drive, benefiting hundreds of thousands of people experiencing hunger across Colorado.
Sunwest Credit Union (CO)
2nd Place – $50 -$250 million in assets category
SunWest’s Safety Week was a collaborative effort with HW Houston Construction, to stress the high importance of job-site safety. SunWest’s main branch was undergoing major renovation. To spread the message about safety both in and outside of work, all Cub scout packs from the Cuerno Verde District, members, and the community, were invited to take part in safety activities. Participants were able to see first-hand the many potential hazards, and how to mitigate them with a safety mindset.
Tucson Federal Credit Union (AZ)
1st Place – $250 million – $1 billion in assets category
Tucson Federal Gives embodies the definition of a strong corporate citizen. Its clear purpose: to help those with low resources and high needs, combined with definite goals, and results that benefit Tucson. The program’s 2018 donations helped 51 local community organizations and garnered 99% participation by employees.
Louise Herring Philosophy in Action Award
The Louise Herring Philosophy in Action Award is given to a credit union for its practical application of credit union philosophy within the actual operation of the credit union. It is awarded for internal programs and services that benefit membership.
