Blue Federal Credit Union helps bring new bike racks to downtown Wellington

Wellington, COLO. – As part of its 2016 Do Gooders Unite campaign, the Blue Federal Credit Union Foundation fulfilled its pledge to donate $10,000 to downtown Wellington to install new bike racks throughout Main Street with the vision of welcoming bike riders throughout downtown.

On September 30, that vision will become a reality and eight new bike racks will be dedicated in downtown Wellington.

Blue invites the community to join the celebration at Centennial Park, 8548 4th Street, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. to help celebrate and dedicate these new additions to the Wellington community.

The event will be kicked off with a ribbon cutting in the park for a ninth bike rack that will eventually go to Winnick Park.

The day’s festivities will include a bike giveaway sponsored by Blue, a kid’s bouncy house, face painting, food trucks, a bike parade with costumes, and a scavenger hunt with prizes from local businesses.

Four 7-foot racks and four 4-foot racks fabricated by Winick Farms and designed by kacyGraphics were placed in front of various higher bicycle trafficked businesses along Cleveland Avenue such as restaurants, the post office, and town hall.

“Wellington is excited about the new bike racks! They are a fun and colorful addition to the downtown area,” said Annie Lindgren, Executive Director of Wellington’s Main Streets Program. “Huge thanks to Blue Federal Credit Union for providing the funds for this project, and to kacyGRAPHICS, Winnick Farms, and the Wellington Main Streets Program design committee for all your hard work on designing, fabricating, and installing these beautiful bike racks. It is great to see these local businesses and talents working together to add creativity and color to downtown Wellington, helping to make it a unique place to gather and connect.”

Blue reached its $10,000 donation goal during last year’s campaign to spread the ‘do good’ message and in turn opening 300 new checking accounts in the area last year. A donation check was presented to the Wellington Main Street Program through the Blue Foundation in November 2016.

“Blue Federal Credit Union is committed to the communities we serve, and we continually look for ways to invest in those communities and further serve our members,” said Michele Bolkovatz, Blue’s Vice President of Marketing. “Watching Blue’s investment in the Wellington community come to life has been amazing to see. We can’t wait for the new bike racks to be enjoyed by everyone in this growing community.”

In addition to community donations, the Do Gooders Unite campaign also offered $100 to those who opened new checking accounts in order to achieve Blue’s goal.  There were no strings attached to receiving the $100 after opening the account; it was only asked that the new member go out and do something good with the money.

With the ongoing success of the Do Gooders Unite campaign, Blue Federal Credit Union is proud to give back to its communities and looks forward to continuing similar campaigns in the future.
