MWCUA credit unions offer assistance during government shutdown

Many member credit unions of the Mountain West Credit Union Association are offering assistance to those impacted by the government shutdown. Below is more information on these services provided by our member CUs. We encourage visiting each credit union’s website for more information.


Landings CU

Depending on the member’s individual circumstances, options may include:

  • Loan deferments and modifications through Extension with possible fees waived
  • Skip a payment
  • Assistance with credit protection/debt cancellation claims

Pinal County FCU

Pinal County Federal Credit Union is allowing our members to skip a payment, no fee, for up to three months, one month at a time.

First CU

Federal members (primary or joint) that had direct deposit in the past 60 days is eligible for a loan up-to $10,000 or the amount of their direct deposit at 0% for 90 days. We are prepared to offer this loan to a member for up-to 4 missed paychecks (max.$40,000).

Federal member (primary or joint) that have a loan are eligible for 30 day loan extensions (including 1st mortgages). We are prepared to offer this extension 2 consecutive months.


Arizona Federal Credit Union

Depending on the member’s individual circumstances, options may include:

  • Loan deferments and modification programs
  • Skip payments
  • Hardship loans with modified qualifications
  • Assistance with credit protection/debt cancellation claims



OneAZ is offering members who have been furloughed:

  • 1% APR
  • $2,500 Maximum Amount; exceptions approved by management
  • 60 Month term, Minimum Payment:  $20
  • 90 days first payment

TruWest CU

  1. Providing 0% loans for 60 days (no fees) in an amount up to their direct deposit for any member with established direct deposit who is a Federal worker and was impacted by the shutdown.  No payments are required for those 60 days.  Also, no credit qualification.  After 60 days the loan converts to 6% amortizing loan.  The loan has a 12 month term.
  • Note: We tried to make this simpler  – a 0% loan equal to their direct deposit each payday missed, repaid when they received backpay – but were prevented by CFPB predatory lending rules.
  1. Skip payment for any loan an impacted member has with us – fee free.



Blue Federal Credit Union  (CO/WY)

For our members who have been negatively impacted by the shutdown, Blue Federal Credit Union will provide a special loan, a penalty-free term share withdrawal, and/or a loan extension without charging a fee.

Canvas CU

Through the creation of their new Helping Hand Loan, a special signature loan designed to assist members who are caught in difficult situations such as the Shutdown, Canvas seeks to offer a silver lining to their members. The loan offers unique features to help those affected, such as no payments for 60 days and special lower interest rates.

Community Choice Credit Union

Offering a 0% loan equal to one month net pay for those impacted. With approved credit, 90-days no payment, 0% APR, no fees.

Credit Union of Denver

Providing payment deferrals, specific loans with first 30 days of 0% interest, and also waiving CD penalty fees if members need to cash in early.

Colorado CU

For current members and new members, we are offering a 90-day no-interest, no-payment loan equivalent to two months’ net pay. For current members, we are also offering payment modifications on existing loans to help ease the burden of monthly payments.

Elevations CU

Short-term interest-free loans to government workers affected by the shutdown to help with living expenses.

Ent CU

Ent has had a program in place for these furloughs dating back to 2011.  Currently, we are offering members affected by the shutdown a 90-day 0% interest single-pay loan up to their monthly payroll deposit with Ent (maximum loan amount $7,500).  For additional assistance on loan obligations with Ent, we will remind members of our skip-a-pay program or put them in contact with our Member Solutions Department for other assistance such as deferment options on eligible loans.


Ent began as a military credit union and we still actively serve a large number of military members in our community with service centers located on military bases and installations.



We are offering personal loans at 5.50%, for 90 days, with qualifying direct deposit.  We will also defer loan payments with no skip fees.  (We normally charge $20.00 to skip loan payments).  Visa payments are excluded and can’t be skipped.  Members should contact us if they have other requests/needs.

Current qualified members can take advantage of:

  • Loan extensions offered on existing loans for 60 days***


Power CU

  • Single pay personal loans at 0% for 90 days up to a maximum of two times the member’s monthly net salary not to exceed $7,500.  Direct deposit is required.
  • Workout arrangements/modifications
  • Free skip-a-pay
  • Early withdrawal fee waiver for certificates of deposit withdrawals up to $10,000


Premier Members CU

We are ready to assist existing and potential new members with a Fixed Rate Loan with no payments for 90 days and a term up to 24 months (up to a maximum of $10,000).  We will also assist members with any overdraft fees as well as the ability to withdraw a certificate without penalty.

Unsecured personal loan:

    • Up to 150% of the individual’s gross monthly income with the following terms up to $10,000
    • Up to 24 month term
    • Payment deferred for the first 90 days
    • Fixed loan at WSJ Prime (flat rate)
    • More than one loan can be requested for a total maximum amount up to $10,000
    • No origination fees

We are also extending a consumer loan payment deferment program to our existing members. The member will need to call or visit the branch to initiate deferment of payments on one loan for up to three months with no fees, excluding real estate.


Sunwest Educational CU

Allowing payment deferrals, specific loans with first 30 days of 0% interest, and also waiving CD penalty fees if members need to cash in early.

Yuma FCU

Offering a 0% loan for 60 days (single pay) up to one month’s pay for anyone affected by the shutdown.  We also offer loan extensions for existing loans and individualized financial services.



First Education FCU

Offering our impacted members:

  • Skip payments on all loans with us (up to 60 days)
  • Interest free personal loan for amount of net income (2 months)


Meridian Trust FCU

Assistance comes in the form of a variety of options. These include 0% loans; $75 deposited into members’ checking account for each missed payroll (two per month); assistance to members in paying their home heating bills; the waiving of early withdrawal fees on CDs for full or partial withdrawals of funds; the ability to skip loan payments; interest-only payments on loans; and other financial assistance.

Sheridan Community FCU

Offering 0.00% interest loans and 90 loan extensions for government workers.


Pathfinder FCU

Offering loan payment extensions without any charges.  Additionally, we will allow a certificate distribution without penalty.  We’re also allowing 90 days no payment on new loans.

Reliant FCU

  • We offer extensions on loans – up to 3 months of skipping payments.
  • Offering a 90-day loan to compensate for missing income at 0% interest, up to $15k for anyone affected by the government shutdown.


Sunlight FCU

Sunlight Federal Credit Union recognizes that many of our members are currently without paychecks due to the government furlough. If you are one of those 800,000 Federal workers, please give your local Sunlight office a call. We will review each case and work with our members to find the best solutions. While there are multiple options available to you, the first step is to contact your local Sunlight office.

Yellowstone FCU

Offering our members loans of one month’s net pay, interest free and no payment for 90 days (unless the shutdown ends earlier) and skip payments on existing loans for 90 days
