UniWyo Federal Credit Union Opens Third Branch

Grant Avenue location will allow growing credit union to better serve members

LARAMIE, Wyoming (Oct. 28, 2015) – UniWyo Federal Credit Union, a fixture in financial services in Laramie for over 60 years, has opened their third branch located at 2020 Grand Avenue.  The doors opened on Wednesday, October 21st, 2015.

UniWyo President and CEO Larry Knopp explained that the property allows for the ability to better serve the Laramie Community, as well as our members outside of Laramie since it also provides additional administrative space.  “UniWyo’s growth over the past four decades has required expansion and a new facility about every 10 years.  We built our branch at 1610 E. Reynolds in 2005, so this opportunity came at just the right time. It not only provides the much needed administrative space, but another retail location in the center of town for our nearly 23,000 members, most of which reside in Laramie.”  In the last 10 years UniWyo has grown from $121,000,000 to over $268,000,000 in assets and with the opening of the additional branch, UniWyo currently has over 70 employees.

The expansion permits increased services in all areas, according to Vice President of Operations, Tara Springsteen.  “We are now able to offer Saturday lobby hours, in addition to the drive up.  Our hours at the branch on Grand on Saturdays are from 9am to 1pm to better serve our community.”  This branch is centrally located, across from the University of Wyoming Athletic Facilities and War Memorial Stadium, with access from the west side of the building, Springsteen explained.  “We have members uniformly distributed all over town.  The branch on Grand, with its lobby, drive up, 24-hour indoor ATM, and drive up ATM, will provide improved access for our members on the south and southeast side of Laramie.”

The three branches provide us the room we need currently, and possibilities for continued growth and expansion, Knopp explained.   “Expanding our reach and adding a third branch provides additional access for our members.  The new location is a win for everyone.”

“UniWyo on Grand is a very high tech, high touch branch that goes beyond your average banking experience,” noted Vice President of Marketing, Mindy Uitterdyk.  The branch has many digital screens, including video walls, tablets, and interactive screens.  “We invite you to come in, open an account, choose your favorite song from our jukebox, and take in all that we have to offer.”
Employees are offering tours daily, and opening new accounts.  “The branch on Grand provides the Laramie community with an experience unlike that of any other financial institution in town,” explained Aaron Courtney, Chairman of the UniWyo Board of Directors.  He also states, “This is an exciting milestone in UniWyo history, and we invite the community to join us for the opening of this new location.”

UniWyo was originally chartered as a credit union in December 1953, when nine University of Wyoming employees opened their accounts with $5 each.  The current membership totals over 23,000.  UniWyo Federal Credit Union is a member of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) with accounts federally insured to at least $250,000.
