Reliant Federal Credit Union’s Penny Challenge raises money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals

Two-month event nets more than $6,200

CASPER, Wy. (Oct. 7, 2015) – Reliant Federal Credit Union spearheaded a two-month event, encouraging members and non-members to donate to their 1 Million Penny Challenge in order to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals through Credit Unions for Kids. The event, hosted in Reliant’s four branches and online, netted $6,298.

“The program demonstrated how small actions can add up to make a big impact,” said Steve Higginson, President and CEO of Reliant FCU. “Pennies are often thought of as disposable, but when we combine them from many sources, the result is measurable and beneficial.”

The money will be donated through Credit Unions for Kids, a partnership between America’s Credit Unions and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals that raises money to provide programs and services for more than 10 million children.  All funds raised stay local. Donations through Reliant’s campaign will support the CMN Hospital which treats kids in their community.

“Our members and others really stepped up to help kids throughout this promotion,” added Higginson.  “This donation will help to make a difference in the lives of many children through Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. We all wanted to help kids who are battling some of life’s toughest challenges.”

About Credit Unions for Kids

Credit unions, fundraising under the Credit Unions for Kids brand, have partnered with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals since 1996 and in that time have generated over $150 million in contributions. Today, individual credit unions across the United States collaborate with credit union chapters, leagues and business partners to raise much-needed funds to benefit CMN Hospitals. Fundraising campaigns range from change drives, Miracle Jeans Day and holiday icon campaigns to golf tournaments, runs, walks and wine auctions. In 2014, credit unions ranked third among corporate partners in annual giving behind only Wal-Mart and Costco. The funds raised by the credit union community help support new facilities, equipment acquisition, research programs, patient services, charitable care and health education programs benefitting 10 million children annually.

About Reliant Federal Credit Union

Reliant Federal Credit Union serves any individual who lives, works, worships, or attends school in Natrona or Converse counties, or any close relative or household member of any existing Reliant FCU member. Reliant Federal Credit Union was established in Casper Wyoming in 1936 during the height of the Great Depression. At that time, few families could obtain affordable credit, and trust in banks was at an all-time low. As a financial institution owned by its members, our goal at that time—and today—was to bring affordable financial services to members, and help them fulfill their dreams.

Today, Reliant has expanded to serve more than 11,000 members in both Natrona and Converse Counties with four branches, and a broad array of electronic services to help you manage your money anytime, from anywhere. For more information, visit
