Mountain West Credit Union Association Formally Endorses Elizabeth “Liz” Cheney for Congress

Her understanding of the need for regulatory relief led to the endorsement. MWCUA represents 22 credit unions in Wyoming.

Denver, CO (July 19, 2016) — The Mountain West Credit Union Association (MWCUA), which represents 22 of Wyoming’s federal credit unions, as well as credit unions in Colorado and Arizona, announces it is endorsing Republican Elizabeth “Liz” Cheney in her bid for the United States House of Representatives. The endorsement comes after candidate interviews and a vote by MWCUA members.

“Cheney has called for the repeal of Dodd-Frank and demonstrated a strong understanding that excessive over regulatory reach on credit unions must be addressed, as these burdens are hurting the people and small businesses from Cheyenne to Cody,” said Scott Earl, President and CEO of MWCUA.  Additionally, Cheney has called for reduced taxes, to rein in government spending and remove obstacles to help businesses and the economy flourish.

“Our interview process made it clear that Ms. Cheney was the right candidate for Wyoming credit unions,” said Brian Rohrbacher, President and CEO of Atlantic City Federal Credit Union in Lander, WY, who participated in the interview process. “She understands the importance of credit unions in the communities they serve, and knows that regulatory relief, particularly for community based financial institutions like credit unions, is critical to help them remain a strong financial partner for members.”

Cheney is a lawyer by trade and is the co-founder of the Alliance for a Strong America, a non-profit organization based in Wyoming and focused on educating voters about the importance of American leadership and strength. She is a member of the International Board of Advisors at the University of Wyoming and previously served on the board of Rivers of Recovery, a Wyoming-based organization that provides rehabilitation for military veterans through fly-fishing.

Wyoming Republicans will determine their candidate for the open congressional seat in the August 16 primary, with the winner heading to the November general election.
